An insurance quote is only as good as the information behind it. Ten minutes of preparation can save a second phone call and help avoid a price that changes later.
Start with your current policy
If you already have insurance, find your declarations page. It lists your coverage, limits and deductibles on one or two pages, and it lets you compare any new quote fairly.
For auto insurance
- Names, birth dates and license details for each driver
- Year, make, model and VIN for each vehicle
- Recent accidents or violations
- How far you drive each year
For home insurance
- The property address and year built
- Square footage and construction type
- The age of the roof, plumbing, wiring and heating
- Any claims in the past few years
For business insurance
- What your business does and where it operates
- Number of employees and yearly revenue
- Vehicles and equipment used for work
- Any past claims
Compare more than the price
Two quotes can look close in price and differ in limits, deductibles and exclusions. Ask what changed, and what each option would pay in a realistic claim.
Be accurate as well. An estimate that is too low may produce a nice number today and a problem at claim time. If you are unsure of a detail, say so and we can help you find it.
